Question:

164 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the new arrangements arising out of the TB Eradication Scheme and any new conditions attaching to the recent decision by the European Community to invest further in the scheme.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 157 and 164 together.

Following recent discussions between senior officials from the EC Commission, my Department and the leaders of the farming and veterinary organisations, an agreement in principle has been reached on the conditions for a Community funded eradication scheme including a state driven 30 day pre-movement test. Negotiations on the details of the scheme are currently taking place with the relevant organisations.

Final agreement on the details of the scheme and the procurement of the EC funding would enable disease levies to be reduced.
