Vol. 424 No. 10

Supplementary Estimates, 1992. - Vote 40: Social Welfare.

I move:

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £102,000,000 be granted to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of December, 1992, for the salaries and expenses of the Office of the Minister for Social Welfare, for certain services administered by that Office, for payments to the Social Insurance Fund, and for certain grants including a grant-in-aid.

Tomás Mac Giolla rose.

I trust the Deputy realises that the House has decided just now that these items are to be taken without debate.

I am aware of that. As the figure of £20 million which was taken off by the Minister for Social Welfare, Deputy McCreevy, has not been restored I wish to oppose this Supplementary Estimate.

I now call on the Minister to move Vote 41, Supplementary Estimate for the Department of Health.

Can we not have a vote on Vote 40?

Is Deputy Mac Giolla challenging Vote No. 40?

I have told the Ceann Comhairle already that I am challenging this Vote because it does not restore the £20 million which was taken from the people.

Question, "That Vote No. 40 be agreed to," put and declared carried.
