Vol. 424 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Westside House, Galway.

Frank Fahey

Question:

91 Mr. F. Fahey asked the Minister for Health if he will investigate the situation of six homeless women in Westside House, Galway, which is run by the Western Health Board; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Westside House is closed all afternoon and the women with their children, one of whom is only three weeks old, have nowhere to go during these hours; and if he will have arrangements made to ensure that this hostel is open on a 24 hours basis.

Westside House is managed by Galway Social Service Council and receives financial support from both the Western Health Board and Galway Corporation.

As a result of consultations between the council and the health board, the problem referred to by the Deputy has recently been resolved and Westside House is again operating on a 24 hour basis.
