Vol. 424 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Clinical Waste.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

92 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Health whether the local authorities or the health boards are in charge of clinical waste.

Clinical waste is, in the first instance, the responsibility of the producer and the current practice of health agencies is to dispose of such waste by incineration. Incineration is subject to the Air Pollution Act, 1987, the provisions of which are administered by the local authorities.
