Vol. 424 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Economic Growth.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

21 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Finance the rate of economic growth which would be necessary in 1993 to eliminate unemployment totally by the end of 1993.

I am unaware that any country has ever achieved anything remotely approaching the sort of employment growth within a single year which the question envisages. Actual experience, therefore, does not allow a realistic answer to be given to the Deputy's question.
