Vol. 424 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - European Community Sterling Rebate.

Godfrey Timmins

Question:

35 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Finance his views on whether Britain is still entitled to a £2 billion sterling annual rebate from the European Community in light of the changes in Community policy agreed since this rebate was first agreed in 1984.

The question of the abatement of the United Kingdom's contribution is being discussed as part of the Delors II proposals. A number of issues have yet to be clarified. Since the matter is still under negotiation, I do not wish to indicate our final position on this matter.
