Vol. 424 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Fish Culture Licence.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

75 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Marine the reason he considers the Fisheries Act to be the most suitable piece of legislation to grant a fish culture licence for Lough Swilly to a company (details supplied).

As I have advised the Deputy in earlier replies, the granting of a fish culture licence under the Fisheries Acts would be considered the most suitable legal mechanism where an application relates to the cultivation of a specific species at a discrete site. A licence under the Foreshore Act would also, of course, be required. With regard to the application by the company to which the Deputy refers, I can advise that the public consultation procedure involved in Environmental Impact Assessment is still in progress and that I have made no decision in the matter.
