Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Liquor Licence Extensions.

Seán Barrett

Question:

174 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Justice the proposals, if any, she has to amend existing legislation in order to extend Saturday night drink exemptions to nightclubs, hotels and other such establishments, which currently expire at midnight, to 1.30 a.m. on Sunday.

Under the provisions of section 5 of the 1927 Intoxicating Liquor Act a special exemption order shall not be granted for any time on a Sunday other than a Sunday that is New Year's Day, New Year's Eve or St. Patrick's Day.

I have no proposals at present to amend the law in this respect.
