185 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Justice when the enhanced radio system will be operational in the Garda Divisional Headquarters in Anglesea Street, Cork City; and if she will make a statement on the fact that this system was not in place when the new building was first opened.
The enhanced radio system for Cork city was not introduced at the same time as the new Divisional Headquarters was opened as the Garda authorities wished to evaluate the latest technology which was coming on the market. The Garda authorities are carrying out this evaluation at present and their proposals will take into account how an enhanced communications system for Cork city would integrate with their information technology requirements generally — an area which is currently the subject of review by external consultants. Following assessment of their proposals by the Garda Communications Advisory Committee, tenders will be sought for the equpment concerned.
