Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - UN Peacekeeping Duties.

Peter Barry

Question:

192 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Justice the amount owed by the UN to cover the cost of Garda personnel serving overseas on United Nations peace-keeping duties.

The UN Civilian Police operations in which the gardaí are involved in Cambodia and the former Yugoslavia are not the subject of recoupment by that organisation to contributing states. Member states agreed to participate on a non-recoupment basis.

A daily subsistence allowance is paid by the United Nations directly to police personnel serving on these missions.
