Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Kildare Sewerage Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

229 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment when work can commence on the provision of a new sewage treatment plant at Robertstown, County Kildare; if these works will be undertaken and completed in 1993; if the necessary funds will be available for the implementation of the plans before the end of 1993; if his attention has been drawn to the pollution threat caused as a result of the lack of such facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Robertstown sewerage scheme has been designed to eliminate the discharge of untreated effluent and thus improve the quality of the receiving waters.

My Department has raised certain questions with Kildare County Council about their tender proposal for the scheme, and a reply to these is awaited.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

231 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment the position in regard to the implementation of plans to provide a new sewage treatment plant at Kilcullen, County Kildare; if the necessary funds are available to carry out this work in 1993; when the works will be concluded; if he can foresee any difficulty that might impede progress on the work; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Contract documents for the site investigation element of this scheme are under consideration in my Department. Having regard to the existing level of commitments under the water and sanitary services programme, I am not in a position to indicate when a decision may be made.
