Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cork City Designated Areas.

Peter Barry

Question:

263 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment if he has satisfied himself with the rate of development in the designated areas of Cork city; if the total of £17.2 million for completed projects during 1992 is satisfactory; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Progress on the urban renewal scheme in Cork city has been reasonably satisfactory. The most up-to-date information available from Cork Corporation — end June, 1992 — shows that, since the scheme was introduced in Cork, projects with an estimated value of £16.57 million have been completed, projects with an estimated value of £2.28 million are in progress and further projects valued at some £22.7 million are in planning. While it is primarily a matter for Cork Corporation to promote the scheme in their area, I will assist in this, as best I can, in the months to come.
