Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Electoral Reform.

John Bruton

Question:

280 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has for electoral reform, in view of the inclusion of this topic amongst those included under the heading Broadening Our Democracy in his speech of 12 January 1993.

Legislation will be prepared to give full effect to the electoral reform proposals in the Programme for a Partnership Government.

The preparation of legislative proposals to give effect to the specific commitments on electoral reform which are contained in the Programme for a Partnership Government is already under way in my Department. Until these proposals have been considered by the Government, it would not be appropriate for me to go into detail on what the legislation may contain.
