Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Appointments to Public Bodies.

Bernard Allen

Question:

282 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence if he will give details of the appointments made in November and December 1992, and January 1993, to State boards under his aegis; the names of those appointed; and the boards to which they have been appointed.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

285 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Defence the number of Government or Ministerial appointments made to public bodies, State companies, State boards, State agencies or other organisations under his aegis, between 5 November 1992 and 12 January 1993; the persons appointed in each case; and the date on which the appointment was made.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 282 and 285 together. One such appointment was made. On the recommendation of the Chief of Staff, Captain Nora M. Curran was appointed to be the Army Medical Corps member of the Army Pensions Board on 12 January, 1993.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

283 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence the number and names of persons other than those in the permanent Civil Service, who have been appointed to positions in his Department or other agencies within the ambit of his Department, including Offices of Ministers of State, since the formation of the Government; if he will give details in each case of their job description and conditions of employment, terms of employment, their rank and salary or allowances; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Two such appointments have been made:

(i) Ms. Siobhán Ní Dhonnchú has been appointed in a secretarial capacity at a salary of £185.14 per week. Her duties are to provide secretarial assistance in my private office in the Department.

(ii) Mr. James Fegan has been appointed as Special Adviser to the Minister of State at the Department at an annual salary of £32,305 per annum. His duties are to furnish advice as required on matters relevant to the Minister of State and the Department.

Both appointments, which are subject to the Civil Service Regulations Acts 1956 and 1958 and any other Act for the time being in force relative to the Civil Service, are to temporary non-established positions in the Civil Service. The duration of the appointments are as determined by contract.
