286 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence the present strength of the Defence Forces; if he has any plans to increase the numbers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 31 December 1992 the strength of the Permanent Defence Force was as follows:

The question of recruitment is kept under review in the light of operational requirements.
