Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Shannon Airport Task Force.

Michael Noonan

Question:

409 Michael Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if a task force on the future of Shannon Airport, as announced by his predecesor, has been established; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As part of the Government's decision of 27 October, 1992 reaffirming Shannon airport as Ireland's sole transatlantic gateway for scheduled services and its commitment to make Shannon a major aviation centre, my predecessor announced the setting up of a special Traffic Development Task Force for Shannon airport with a budget of £1 million over the next two years.

Since then my Department have had discussions with the main parties involved in setting up the Task Force but no final decisions have yet been taken on its composition and its modus operandi. I would hope to do so shortly.
