Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Teachers' Pay.

Edward Nealon

Question:

487 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that a secondary teacher (details supplied) in County Louth who according to the rules and regulations, should be on point 8 of the salary scale is still on point 4; that a claim has been made for some considerable time for readjustment and that, although the right of the case is not disputed, no action has been taken; if she will ensure that this person will be put on the appropriate point of the scale immediately and that arrears will be paid.

The claim for incremental credit in this case was formally lodged in November 1992 and there has been no avoidable delay in processing it.

This teacher has been allowed credit in respect of one year's teaching service in Spain but the teacher's claim in respect of another three years service in Ireland has been disallowed. The teacher has now been placed on Point 5 of the salary scale and the arrears due were included in the teacher's salary cheque this month.
