Bernard Allen

508 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if she will waive the £100 fee payable for an individual assessment of a qualification obtained outside the Republic of Ireland for a person (details supplied) in County Cork who is unemployed and cannot afford this fee.

Question:

510 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the Single European Act 1986 she will waive the need for the recognition of educational qualifications for the purposes of registration for a secondary school teacher (details supplied) in County Cork.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 508 and 510 together.

The Registration Council assesses qualifications for the purposes of registration as a secondary teacher. The council complies with the provisions of EC Directive 89/48 on the mutual recognition of qualifications when assessing qualifications obtained in other EC member states. Persons seeking assessment of their qualifications must pay a fee specified by the council.

There is no provision for the waiving of either the qualification requirements or the fee in individual cases.
