Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Provision of Replacement School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

520 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the position regarding the schedule for the replacement of St. Wolstan's Holy Faith Secondary School, Dublin Road, Celbridge, County Kildare; the full extent of the facilities to be provided; if a site has been identified and acquired; if the administrative structures have been agreed; when work is expected to begin on the project; when it is likely to be completed; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The question of providing a second level school for girls at Celbridge, both to replace the existing accommodation at St. Wolstan's Holy Faith School and to cater for the increasing demand for pupil places in the area, is being examined by my Department in the light of the announcement by the Holy Faith Sisters of their intention to withdraw from management of their school in 1997.

I anticipate a decision being taken shortly on the number of pupils to be catered for in the school. In that light, decisions will be taken in relation to the location and schedule of accommodation to be provided. It is not possible, at this stage, to state when work on the proposed school is expected to begin or when it is likely to be completed. No decision has yet been taken on the management structure of the proposed school.
