Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Bus Route.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

530 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if she will change the school bus route (details supplied) requested by South Tipperary vocational education committee; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Four of the families in question reside in Tipperary Town post-primary Centre catchment area, and are fully eligible, under the terms of the Post-primary School Transport Scheme, for transport to that centre. They live between 0.2 and 1.5 miles of the route and are, therefore, considered to have a reasonable and adequate level of service in the overall context of the operation of the scheme.

The remaining five families involved reside in the Cashel post primary centre catchment area, and are eligible only for transport from the catchment boundary to Tipperary Town. The rules for school transport preclude an extension of bus services into an adjacent catchment area.

In these circumstances, it is not open to my Department to make any change to the existing service.
