Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Emigrant Services.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

66 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will increase the level of grant aid for emigrant services in the USA and his views on whether the present grant aid is adequate.

Because of the current difficult budgetary situation, I regret it has not been possible, despite every effort, to allocate increased funding for Irish immigrant assistance groups in the United States this year.

I can assure the Deputy, however, that the Government appreciate the very valuable work done by the immigrant assistance groups and taking account, as we must, of present budgetary constraints, we will continue to give every support open to us to their activities.
