Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Rock of Donamaise (Laois).

Charles Flanagan

Question:

109 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance the proposed works to be carried out by the Office of Public Works on the site of the Rock of Donamaise, Portlaoise, County Laois; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As indicated in a reply to a parliamentary question on 13 October, 1992 the programme of conservation works at Donamaise will be extensive and will be carried out on a phased basis over a number of years, as resources permit. The next stage of the work at Donamaise is an archaeological excavation. This work is scheduled to commence later this year, subject to the availability of funds. In addition, it is intended to continue to clear scrub and vegetation from the site in order to improve access and to permit a detailed assessment of the structure.
