Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tax Concessions for Disabled Drivers.

Richard Bruton

Question:

134 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the progress, if any, which has been made in his review of the tax concessions for disabled drivers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The tax concessions for disabled drivers are provided for in the Disabled Drivers (Tax Concessions) Regulations, 1989. When those Regulations were made in December 1989, an undertaking was given that they would be reviewed after they had been in operation for a year. A considerable amount of work has been done in relation to this review but, unfortunately, it has not been possible to finalise it to date, primarily, because of work pressures arising from the very considerable volume of legislation which had to be processed throughout 1992 in preparation for the Single Market. The completion of the review will be accorded priority once the forthcoming budget is out of the way.
