Vol. 425 No. 8

Written Answers. - Compensation.

Tony Gregory

Question:

73 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if, when assessing the level of compensation to be paid on an ex-gratia basis to a victim of a miscarriage of justice, the payment is contingent or conditional on the subject of such miscarriage of justice foregoing any action or right of action he/she might have arising from the circumstances of his/her case.

It would be in accordance with normal practice in reaching agreement on levels of compensation that such agreement would be subject to the condition cited by the Deputy.
