Vol. 426 No. 1

Written Answers. - Criminal Injuries' Compensation Fund Claims.

Ivan Yates

Question:

86 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Justice the length of time it takes to obtain payments under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund.

As the Deputy will be aware the Tribunal is an independent body. I have no function in the settlement of claims for compensation. However, I am informed that the time taken to obtain payment varies from case to case and that priority as regards payment is determined by the date of acceptance of the award. In this context, persons being paid their awards this month accepted those awards in October/November, 1991.
