Vol. 426 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Kerry Complaint Against Gardaí.

Tony Gregory

Question:

98 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the outcome of the allegation against the Gardaí made by a person (details supplied) in County Kerry to the Garda Complaints Board and to the DPP; and if she has satisfied herself that this matter has been satisfactorily investigated and resolved.

The Garda Síochána Complaints Board was established under the Garda Síochána (Complaints) Act, 1986 as an independent statutory body to investigate and adjudicate on complaints made by the public against members of the Garda Síochána. I have no function in relation to the consideration by the board of any individual complaint and it would, therefore, be inappropriate for me to comment on the matter raised in the question.

Similarly the Director of Public Prosecutions is independent in the discharge of his functions.
