Vol. 426 No. 2

Written Answers. - Education Commitments.

Avril Doyle

Question:

129 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Education whether the commitments given to second level education in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress regarding the reduction in the pupil teacher ratio to 19:1, the continuation of the ex quota provision for vice-principals, guidance councillors in schools of more than 350 pupils, more money for inservice, grants for secretaries and caretakers and the elimination of substandard buildings, will be honoured in full in the new Programme for a Partnership Government 1993-1997; and the number of these commitments which will be implemented in 1993.

It is proposed to have aspects of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress, including these raised by the Deputy, discussed at the Central Review Committee of the Programme. Pending the outcome of these discussions, I am not in a position to comment on the matter.
