Vol. 426 No. 2

Written Answers. - Killenkere River (Cavan) Drainage Works.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

66 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Finance if he will make available additional funding for the completion of drainage works on the Killenkere River, Killenkere, Virginia, County Cavan, in view of the benefits of the drainage works so far; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A proposal to drain the Killenkere River was considered by the Commissioners of Public Works as part of the Boyne Catchment Drainage Scheme. This proposal was rejected on economic grounds. The scheduled works on this drainage scheme have since been completed and the Commissioners' statutory authority now provides solely for the maintenance thereof.

Accordingly, the question of allocating additional funding for drainage on the Killenkere River does not arise.

The drainage works to which the question refers were carried out by a group representing local landowners. They were not part of the Boyne Catchment Drainage Scheme and the Commissioners of Public Works have no responsibility for them.
