Vol. 426 No. 2

Written Answers. - Old Peoples Dwellings.

Edward Nealon

Question:

87 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application from Sligo Corporation for funding to provide central heating for old people's dwellings in the Cranmore area of Sligo and in all other old people's dwellings; if he intends to make the necessary funding available; when work will start on the installation of the central heating in these houses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The management, maintenance and improvement of their rented dwellings are matters for the local authority to be funded from their revenue resources. The corporation sought approval to meet the cost of installing central heating in all its old persons' dwellings from their internal housing capital receipts. However, as these receipts are required for the authority's housing construction programme, the question of using them for other purposes does not arise.
