Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - Pig Development Programme.

Peter Barry

Question:

232 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has satisfied himself with the pig development programme, which is targeted to increase by a million in 1997 and that this will give an impetus to job creation in agriculture of a significant number; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The matter of programming the development of the pigmeat sector is currently among the questions before the expert group on the food industry established by me to make recommendations on a programme for the development of the food industry as a whole. It is expected that the expert group will finalise its report within the next month or two.
