Vol. 427 No. 2

Written Answers. - Kilcreene (Kilkenny) Hospital Status.

Phil Hogan

Question:

181 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Health his views on whether it is necessary to upgrade and modernise Kilcreene Hospital, County Kilkenny in view of the recent decision in respect of orthopaedic treatment taken by the South-Eastern Health Board; when the necessary finance will be made available to carry out this development; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department and the South Eastern Health board have agreed to commence detailed planning on the requirements necessary to enable Kilcreene to provide the service consistent with the decisions recently agreed by the South Eastern Health Board on the provision of upgraded orthopaedic services in the South Eastern Health Board area. It is proposed that work should commence on these improvements before the end of 1993.
