Question:

194 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education the number of primary schools in County Kerry which have the services of a full-time remedial teacher; and the number which have the services of a part-time remedial teacher.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 193 and 194 together.

Of the 144 ordinary primary schools in County Kerry 10 schools have the services of a remedial teacher on a full-time basis, while 51 schools have the services of a remedial teacher on a part-time basis. This leaves 83 schools in the county without the services of a remedial teacher.

Fifty-eight per cent of pupils in the county are attending schools which have the services of a remedial teacher.
