83 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice the estimated number of EC nationals other than Irish who now own property in this country; if her attention has been drawn to the increase in the purchase of Irish land by EC nationals and others; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
The functions of my Department do not include a responsibility for maintaining comprehensive records in relation to the ownership of property in this country. The title to certain kinds of property would of course be the subject of records in the Land Registry, but the task of compiling a comprehensive record by reference to the nationality of titleholders of even that property would be out of proportion to the benefits to be gained thereby. I am therefore unable to supply the information sought by the Deputy.
