Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - Shared Ownership Scheme.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

152 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment the number of houses which have been purchased to date under the shared ownership scheme; the number of sites which have been sold by each authority to persons wishing to build their own houses; the number of sites made available for voluntary housing; the date on which each authority was notified of its 1992 allocation for local authority housing; the date on which each authority submitted its drawings and cost plans for 1992 starts; the date on which he gave final approval for housing schemes under the 1992 allocation.

Returns of their housing operations, including activity under the various schemes, such as the shared ownership and sites schemes introduced in A Plan for Social Housing, are obtained quarterly from local authorities and are published in my Department's Housing Statistics Bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The bulletin for 1991 gives details for that year and the bulletin for the September quarter 1992, gives details in respect of the nine months to 30 September, 1992. Details of the full year 1992 will be published shortly in the Annual Housing Statistics Bulletin 1992.

Housing authorities were notified of the capital allocations for their 1992 local authority housing programme on 26 February, 1992. In relation to the dates of submission by the authorities of each scheme and approval by my Department, it would not be practicable, having regard to the number of schemes involved, the nature of submissions received and the inordinate commitment of staff time and resources that would be necessary, to compile the information requested.
