Vol. 427 No. 7

Written Answers. - Teachers' Pensions.

Máirín Quill

Question:

175 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education if she will recognise teaching services in Northern Ireland for pensionable purposes; and if so, if this will happen in the context of European integration.

Teaching service given in Northern Ireland is not pensionable service for the purposes of the National School Teachers' Superannuation Scheme or Secondary Teachers' Superannuation Scheme and there are no proposals for changing this position at present.

There are no EC proposals to provide reciprocal recognition in this matter. Any such proposals would have to be considered in a public sector wide context and this is a matter for the Minister for Finance.
