Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Morley — the imminent closure of Claremorris Ltd. with the loss of 40 jobs in Claremorris town, County Mayo; (2) Deputy M. Ahern — the plight of self-employed workers in Coillte forestries who are being refused C.2 certificates by tax districts in Cork East; and if there is a national policy by the Revenue authorities to refuse such certificates; (3) Deputy Ferris — the proposals, if any, the Minister for Health has to set up a national programme for treatment of alcoholism which would bring together various strands of expertise in the country; (4) Deputy Byrne — the matter of Raheen national school, County Wexford and the non-inclusion of its refurbishment in the Book of Estimates for 1993; (5) Deputy Finucane — if the Minister for Education will clarify the future educational role of Stella Maris Convent secondary school, Foynes, County Limerick, beyond 1995, in view of the withdrawal of the religious community and the decision not to accept first year students from September 1993; (6) Deputy J. O'Keeffe — the further layoff of workers at the Molnlycke factory in Dunmanway, County Cork, on 12 March leading to a total of 184 employees who will have lost their jobs and the need for special priority to be given to the town of Dunmanway which has suffered job losses of Digital proportions; (7) Deputy J. Higgins — the closure of Claremorris Ltd., Claremorris, County Mayo with the loss of 38 jobs and the need for the urgent intervention of the Minister for Enterprise and Employment in the matter; (8) Deputy D. Ahern — the recent arrest in England and subsequent release of Patrick Murphy formerly of Keady, County Armagh; (9) Deputy Dukes — if the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry met representatives of a company (details supplied) in May 1992; if so, the details of what transpired at that meeting; and whether that meeting had any connection with this company's current interest in acquiring the State's remaining ordinary shareholding in Greencore plc; (10) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe — if the Minister for Education will allay the fears of parents and students by giving a commitment to continuing the alternative leaving certificate programme; (11) Deputy Boylan — the problems in Cavan general hospital arising from the emphasis on having as many vacant beds as possible, resulting in pressure on surgeons for an early discharge of post-operative patients to achieve minimum occupancy of beds and the resulting threat of closure of a ward; (12) Deputy Deenihan the alarming increase in youth homelessness in Dublin and other large urban areas; (13) Deputy Flood — the urgent and serious matter of the imminent loss of 190 jobs at the Packard plant, Tallaght, Dublin 24; (14) Deputy R. Bruton — whether the Minister for Enterprise and Employment had any early warning of the redundancies at the Packard plant; the action, if any, which was taken to protect these jobs; and the plans, if any, he has to provide priority for replacement industry in the Tallaght area, Dublin 24, in the wake of yesterday's redundancies; (15) Deputy Harney — the loss of jobs at the Packard Electric Plant in Tallaght, Dublin 24; (16) Deputy Flanagan — the matter of the dispute in the Eastern Health Board and consequent adverse effect on treatment and services; (17) Deputy Quill — the impending day long closure of 12 schools in the Munster region, including four in the Bishopstown region of Cork city, due to union action in relation to the failure to put in place a proper system for the appointment of substitute teachers; (18) Deputy Rabbitte — the announcement by Packard Electric, the major employer in Tallaght, that it is planning to shed 190 jobs and the need for Government intevention with the company to attempt to save the jobs in view of the potentially disastrous impact of such job losses for the Tallaght area; (19) Deputy Enda Kenny — the provision of phase two of the general hospital for Castlebar, County Mayo; (20) Deputy Ó Cuív — when the Minister for Education intends to sanction the signing of the contract for the erection of an eight classroom extension at Athenry vocational school, Galway.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies M. Ahern, J. O'Keeffe and Finucane.
