Vol. 428 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Communicable Disease Centre.

Ivor Callely

Question:

166 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the benefits of a national communicable disease centre, which could collect, evaluate and monitor data, in a co-ordinated approach from all participants in the delivery of health services; and if he will fund such a national centre.

The 1990 Working Party report on Community Medicine contains a wide range of recommendations which are currently being considered within the Department and are the subject of discussions with interested groups. The future role of Public Health and a Disease Surveillance Unit and how it is to be organised are part of these ongoing considerations.
