Vol. 428 No. 6

Written Answers. - Maternity and Infant Care Scheme.

Helen Keogh

Question:

168 Ms. Keogh asked the Minister for Health if relevant women's organisations can be represented on the review group on the maternity and infant care scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Helen Keogh

Question:

169 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Health the reason the review group on the maternity and infant care scheme lacks any representation of midwives and mothers who are recipients of the scheme.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 168 and 169 together. A wide range of professional interests are represented in the membership of the Maternity and Infant Care Scheme Review Group.

In addition an advertisement has been placed in the national press inviting submissions from interested parties. The attention of a range of organisations representing women, professional and consumer interests has also been drawn to the review. All submissions received will be carefully considered.

I have decided to appoint a midwife and a consumer representative to the Group. Accordingly I am in the process of contacting An Bord Altranais and the Council for the Status of Women for nominations.
