Vol. 429 No. 5

Written Answers. - Bord Fáilte Budget.

Michael McDowell

Question:

18 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if, in relation to Bord Fáilte he will give details of the total budget for 1993; and the total number of employees; the proportion of total expenditure represented by wages.

Exchequer grant-in-aid to Bord Fáilte for 1993 is £22.304 million, including £0.5 million in respect of capital development work. In addition, the board expects to generate another £4.5 million in income which will also go towards its annual budget, giving a total budget for 1993 of £26.804 million.

The total number employed by Bord Fáilte at 31 March 1993 was 276. Bord Fáilte estimates that its total pay budget for 1993 is £10.071 million — £9.871 million of which will be met from the grant-in-aid and £0.2 million from its own resources. A sum of £1.218 million is allocated towards the pay bill of the regional tourism organisations and £1 million towards superannuation. Therefore, wages including superannuation, of Bord Fáilte employees account for £8.8 million.

The board is also responsible under a global contract agreement with the European Commission for the disbursement this year of £23.216 million European Regional Development Fund assistance for a number of tourism development and promotional projects around the country, and for the disbursement of £1.381 million from the International Fund for Ireland for the promotion and development of tourism in the Border counties.
