Vol. 429 No. 5

Written Answers. - Santry Stadium Upgrading.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

56 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if she will assist the Dublin board BLOE and others to meet their objective of having Santry Stadium, Dublin 9, upgraded as promised.

A grant of £1.3 million has been allocated for the refurbishment and upgrading of Santry Stadium under my Department's multi-annual capital programme for the provision of major sports facilities which is funded from the proceeds of the national lottery. The project includes the refurbishment of the athletic track and infield playing pitch, provision of a 1000 seat spectator stand, dressing rooms and an indoor synthetic training track.

Tenders for the track refurbishment and associated works have recently been received from the consultants commissioned by Dublin County Council, who are the clients for the project. The tenders for the spectator stand and associated buildings are presently under consideration by the consultants and their report and recommendation will shortly be submitted to my Department.

It is expected that construction work on the project will commence during the summer and be completed by early 1994.
