Vol. 429 No. 8

Written Answers. - Arts Council Budget.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

81 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the plans, if any, he has to ensure that the Arts Council's budget will be operated on a co-ordinated three yearly plan.

The Deputy will be aware that the Programme for a Partnership Government 1993-97 provides that An Comhairle Ealaíon will be asked to operate on a co-ordinated three yearly plan for funding of the arts. Such a procedure of longer term planning would enable greater co-ordination between capital and current expenditure and also between local and national initiatives and priorities. I have already met with the members of An Comhairle Ealaíon and I had a useful exchange of views with them on future policy orientations. I propose to formally request An Comhairle to prepare a co-ordinated three-yearly plan in the near future.
