Question:146 Ms. McManus asked the Minister for Education if she intends to bring in registration of pre-schools.

The Deputy is aware of my commitment in the Programme for a Partnership Government 1993-1997 to expand pre-school education provision for children between the ages of two and four years, in disadvantaged areas. I am at present having proposals formulated within my Department regarding the implementation of this commitment.
Regulations regarding pre-school services generally are containaed in the Child Care Act, 1991 and are, primarily, a matter for the Minister for Health.
