Vol. 430 No. 3

Written Answers. - Education Green Paper Submissions.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

162 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education when she expects to complete consideration of her response, if any, to submissions received regarding the Green Paper on Education; if she will respond favourably to any of the major submissions; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have now received nearly 900 submissions commenting on the Green Paper and on the education proposals in the Programme for a Partnership Government. Together with my officials I am carefully examining these submissions. I do not intend to make statements on individual submissions but may make comments, as part of the consultation process, on particular issues should I feel that it would be suitable and appropriate.

My objective, as set out in the Programme for a Partnership Government, is to publish a White Paper by the end of 1993 and the White Paper will be the Government's response to the submissions.
