Vol. 430 No. 3

Written Answers. - Purchase of Playing Field.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

31 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that Cavan Vocational School has been expanding in recent years and is expecting a second level enrolment of almost 600 students for the school year 1993/1994 and that its subsidiary, Cavan College of Further Studies, has a student population of approximately 400 students; and that the school is using an unsafe and unsuitable playing field at present on the side of Drumlin hills, if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that the parents' committee have raised £7,000 to purchase a suitable field costing approximately £40,000; if she will give a once off capital grant of £10,000 or more towards this development; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has received no proposals for the purchase of a new playing field for Cavan Vocational School. It would be a matter for the County Cavan Education Committee to apply for a capital allocation for such a proposal. Any application would be considered on its merits and in the context of my Department's other commitments and priorities.
