Vol. 430 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Waterford School Heating System.

Austin Deasy

Question:

49 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education if she will approve grant aid retrospectively for a school (details supplied) in County Waterford in view of the fact that the immediate installation of a new heating system was required due to the total malfunction of the existing system at a time of the year when the heating needs of over 800 pupils had to be catered for.

An application from the school authorities for a retrospective grant in respect of the provision of a replacement heating boiler at the school has been examined by my Department.

The application has been refused as the procedures including the requirements for prior consultation, professional technical advice and competitive tendering were not complied with. Having reviewed all the circumstances I do not propose to alter this decision.
