Question:

62 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education if she will give a breakdown of the total cost involved to date for her Department under the Government's current programme of decentralisation; if she will clarify the costs and relevant payments to personnel with regard to the relocation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department relocated staff to Athlone in 1991 under the Government's decentalisation programme. The cost of that decentralisation amounted to approximately £858,000, broken down as follows:

Furniture and fittings — including removals

Installation of telephone and computer systems

81,000

Courier services to date

37,000

Training costs, including special payments made to staff who were temporarily relocated to Dublin for training purposes

85,000

Additional travel and subsistence costs to date, including overtime

97,000

Increase in staff numbers, pending absorption to normal staffing levels (now almost complete)

320,000
