Vol. 430 No. 3

Written Answers. - Kilmore (Wexford) Quay.

Avril Doyle

Question:

122 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for the Marine the reason Kilmore Quay, County Wexford, is not included in his list of main fishing harbours on which a £24 million investment is to be spent on improvements with the creation of 540 jobs, as reported in a newspaper (details supplied) on 26 April 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The newspaper article referred to outlined proposals to further improve the infrastructure and facilities at the State-owned fishery harbour centres at Howth, Killybegs, Dunmore East, Castletownbere and Rossaveel. Kilmore Quay is not a fishery harbour centre.

As the Deputy will be aware, I have already approved a major development scheme at Kilmore Quay. Subject to the design work progressing satisfactorily, and all necessary sanctions being finalised, it is intended to commence works in the latter part of this year.
