Vol. 430 No. 4

Written Answers. - Job Sharing.

Question:

25 Mr. O'Keeffe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of persons within his Department who are currently operating on a work-sharing basis; and if he intends to encourage a higher percentage of his staff to become involved in work-sharing projects.

Fourteen officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs are currently working on a job-sharing basis.

The Department has fully participated in the job-sharing scheme since it was introduced by the Minister for Finance in 1984 and no application received has been refused to date. Where a potential job-sharing partner is not available from within the Department, arrangements are made, with the agreement of the staff member concerned, to transfer the applicant to another Department where a job-sharing partner has been identified.
I am satisfied that the job-sharing scheme is operated by the Department to the fullest extent possible and that every employee who expresses an interest in job-sharing is facilitated.
No application has been received to date in respect of any officer working in the Office of the Tánaiste.
