Vol. 430 No. 4

Written Answers. - Lisdoonvarna (Clare) Garda Strength.

Tony Killeen

Question:

102 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Justice if she will restore the number of gardaí stationed at Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, to pre-1990 levels.

The present strength of Lisdoonvarna Garda station is two gardaí, as compared with three in 1990. The allocation of staffing resources is a matter for Garda managment who make their decisions on the basis of their best professional judgement as to the requirements of particular areas from time to time. I am informed by the Garda authorities that they are satisfied that the current strength is adequate to meet the policing needs of Lisdoonvarna which can be readily augmented by the Divisional/District Service if required. The Garda authorities have informed me that the position at Lisdoonvarna will be kept under review.
