Vol. 430 No. 4

Written Answers. - Accommodation for Homeless Men.

Tony Gregory

Question:

110 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Defence the start-up costs for the provision of accommodation for homeless men in St. Brendan's Hospital, Grangegorman, Dublin 7; the staffing, food and maintenance costs from the establishment of the service in December 1992, to date; the total cost to date and the projected costs for 1993; and the number who have availed of this service since its establishment.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

£

Start-up costs

33,826.00

Additional staffing costs i.e. allowances paid to military personnel

41,137.00

Food costs

7,943.00

Maintenance costs

11,914.00

Miscellaneous costs

41,070.00

Total cost to date

135,890.00

Number who availed of service (to end April)

4,569

The costs for a full year — 1993 would be of the order of £268,000 but the question of the continuing involvement of the Defence Forces in the operation of the shelter is currently under examination.
